Why Materials Matter: Creating Jewelry That Lasts

When I design and create jewelry for MaMauve, I always begin with one key principle: quality is key. The beauty of a piece shouldn’t fade after just a few wears. That’s why I only work with high-quality materials, so each necklace remains just as beautiful over time as the day you first put it on.

Gold-Filled vs. Gold-Plated

One question I’m often asked about is the difference between 14K gold-plated and 14K gold-filled jewelry.

Gold-plated jewelry has a thin layer of gold applied to a base metal, usually through electroplating. While affordable, the coating is delicate and tends to wear off quickly with regular use.

Gold-filled jewelry, on the other hand, has a much thicker layer of gold mechanically bonded to a core metal. This makes it far more durable, tarnish-resistant, and suitable for daily wear. In fact, with proper care, gold-filled pieces can last for years and still maintain their shine.

That’s why any gold component I use in my designs is 14K gold-filled. So your jewelry not only looks luxurious but also stands the test of time!

Genuine Gemstones

There’s something undeniably special about natural gemstones. Each stone is unique, formed over millions of years, and carries with it a distinct beauty and energy. Unlike glass, plastic, or painted beads, genuine gemstones don’t fade, peel, or lose their character with age.

Artificial stones may imitate the look of the real thing, but they lack the depth, texture, and authenticity that make natural gemstones so captivating. From the soft glow of rose quartz to the shifting shimmer of labradorite, or the tranquil tones of aquamarine, I choose stones that I would wear myself and that I hope you’ll treasure too.

Jewelry with Intention and Integrity

Creating MaMauve pieces is a slow, intentional process. I only work with high quality materials sourced from reputable wholesalers. Every single piece is handmade by me with care to bring you wearable pieces which will stay with you for years and years.
